Our Mission Statement here at Edge of EDM is to educate, inspire, elucidate, and grow your love of EDM in all its forms! Whether you listen to House, Trance, Progressive House, Breaks, Bass Music, Drum & Bass, or any other style of electronic music, it came from somewhere. There is the saying, “I have gone so far because I have stood on the shoulders of giants!â€, and this is true with not only the music but also the scene we all enjoy so much now! Looking at where are scene and music came from will open your eyes to the rich and varied culture that is EDM. To do this we are going to dive deeply into the roots and originators.
Our Edge of EDM Mission Statement is realized as we share this knowledge with weekly episodes and special articles and interviews with the scene makers from the past and from today! Perhaps a sample from the original song we explore was used in other later House or Techno or Drum & Bass songs, or it was remade by later artists in the 1990s or 2000s, or influenced EDM now. Or, we explore a genre of music that later evolved into House. While the oldest origins of EDM go back to Jazz, Funk, Soul, and Disco, the genres that are more recognizable as what we now listen to are Acid House, Techno, New Beat, Hip House, and Electro Funk to name just a few. We will explore all these styles of music and chart their impact.
Knowing more about something you love greatly deepens your love for it. This is true whether it is in interpersonal relationships or in our case here with the music we love. Nothing quite hits the soul the way music does. Nothing else causes such a powerful emotional response, or can give you goosebumps on your arms or neck! What you love musically has been caressed by previous artists for decades to create the sound that turns your crank! One thing that is fascinating about music is that it can be perfect for a joyous mood or when you’re in a sad mood!
Quantum physics tells us that anything we put our attention on is fundamentally changed by the fact it has an observer. Therefore, according to science, every time you are involved in the scene it is a radical act of creation and catalyst of change. By being here on this website and learning about the roots of EDM, you are setting echoes rippling throughout the scene! You will go to a House party, or club, or Rave and share in conversation what you’ve learned, or you’ll look like bees are attacking you when you cut loose on the dancefloor, or nod appreciatively while the DJ is mixing, and all these acts will literally make you a scene-maker as you impact the EDM scene! Share what you can no matter how seemingly small, for if only the brightest stars shone, the night sky would be a very dark place!
